The South African adaptation of the world acclaimed musical production, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf” was both powerful and refreshing. Featuring a stellar cast of theatre veterans and relative newbies in what most thought was a risky move, that risk if we are to call it that seems to have paid off as there was a perfect balance of calm experience and brashness which comes with not being constrained by tired theatre conventions.

Essentially the thinking behind these images was just to sharpen my skill and create outside of brief which is very important. You find that you loose your flair because of the brief. So Everything Matters serves that purpose and also forces me to slow down and consider I normally wouldn't when making images.

Die Fotografien von Andy Mkosi zeigen in ihrem neuesten Fotoessay"Midgrooves" das teils schrille Nachtleben der südafrikanischen Clubszene um Johannesburg. In ihren Bildern zeigt sie Partygänger und Momentaufnahmen einer LGBTQ+ Clubkultur, die auch in Südafrika ständigen Anfeindungen ausgesetzt ist. Durch Corona-Restriktionen ist diese Kultur stark getroffen. Dem üblichen Posing der Partyszene setzt Andy Mkosi eine eher subtile Beobachtung der stillen Momente entgegen. Die Fotografin taucht ein, wird fast unsichtbar, fängt dabei Momente von großer Intensität ein.
